MOTOR VEHICLE REPAIRS

MVR Level 1

QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW The CVQ Level 1 in Motor Vehicle Repairs (Cars and Light Trucks) is for individuals whose role in the Automotive sector requires well developed behavioural competencies but whose scope for independent decision making and for bringing about change is limited. They are likely to be in roles where they are required: 

● To undertake interactive workplace communication 

● To draw and interpret sketches and simple drawings 

● To perform routine housekeeping duties 

● Disassemble/assemble cylinder head and check tolerances 

● Service engines and associated engine components

 

Normally persons working at Level 1 should be able to competently carry out simple and routine work activities and to collaborate with others through groups and teams. The qualification covers competencies by providing services in Motor Vehicle Repairs (cars and light trucks) Level 1 such as being able to understand and carry out components of engine mechanical system, engine management system, electrical/electronic system, fabrication, steering and suspension systems business service and information technology while working in a safe and hygienic manner. 

Relevant occupations include: 

● Assistant Service Technician 

● Assistant Diagnostic technician

 ● Assistant Vehicle Maintenance Officer 

Modules

  • Follow principles of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) in the work environment

  • Undertake interactive workplace communication

  • Plan to undertake a routine task  

  • Perform routine housekeeping duties  

  • Use and maintain workplace tools and equipment

  • Use and maintain measuring devices

  • Draw and interpret sketches and simple drawings

  • Perform related computations - (basic)

  • Perform manual handling and lifting  

  • Carry out bench work fitting operations  

  • Perform technical computations (basic)

  • Prepare for general servicing/repairing of motor vehicle  

  • Service engines and associated engine components

  • Service cooling systems and associated components

  • Disassemble/assemble cylinder head and check tolerances

  • Disassemble /assemble engine block and sub-assemblies and evaluate components/check tolerances Perform routine servicing of petrol fuel systems

  • Perform basic inspection of steering and suspension system  

  • Remove service and replace steering and suspension system components

  • Prepare for wheel alignment operations  

  • Prepare for manual/automatic transmission service/repair  

  • Perform routine inspection of brake system component/unit  

  • Service disc/hydraulic braking systems  

  • Perform routine inspection and testing of faulty electrical system component/unit  

  • Carry out minor repairs to electrical wiring/lighting /warning systems Elective

  • Balance wheel assembly Elective

  • Dismantle wheels and remove/repair/refit tires/tubes Elective

  • Remove/refit/replace manual transmission and drive train system components/unit from vehicle Elective

  • Service clutch, CV joints, and final drive assemblies and or associated components Elective

  • Carry out data entry and retrieval procedures Elective
